Asked at the Mirror

Common questions about Funna princess dresses, sizes, accessories and this site Part of the Funna wardrobe of princess dress costumes.

What is a good princess dress for a two-year-old girl?

Start with a 2T or 3T layered gown with an elasticated back and short or long sleeves rather than off-shoulder. At that age the off-shoulder band slides, and a dress that needs adjusting every ten minutes will not be worn. The blue princess costume for little girls starts at 2T and is the one I would reach for.

What are the best princess dresses for a four-year-old?

Four is the age where accessories start to matter more than the gown itself. Look for a listing that includes a crown, a wand and gloves in the box, and size it at the child's everyday clothing size or one band up. Both of the blue dresses in this wardrobe fit that description, as does the yellow layered gown.

Can children wear these costumes to a theme park?

That depends entirely on the park's own dress code, which changes and which I cannot speak for. As a practical matter, the lighter dresses travel far better than the structured gowns — they fold small, they do not need an iron afterwards, and a child can sit in one for a long day without complaint.

Do the dresses come with accessories?

Most of the girls' dresses do, and the card for each one lists what is included. The usual set is a wand, a crown, a ring, a necklace, gloves, a plait and earrings, though it varies by listing. The mermaid wig is sold on its own and is not included with the mermaid dresses.

Are there matching sizes for a grown-up and a child?

Yes, on the mermaid mommy and me listing, which carries child sizes from 3T up and adult sizes from X-Small. Ordering both from that one listing is the only way to be sure the two purples match.

How should I wash a tulle costume?

Cold water, by hand, mild detergent, no softener, line dry, never a tumble dryer and never an iron on the tulle. There is a longer version of this answer in the guide on washing and storing a costume.

Why does a price here differ from the price on the listing?

Because this page was built on a particular day and prices move after that. The listing is always the correct one. I rebuild the pages regularly, but there will always be a gap.

Do you sell these dresses?

No. There is no basket on this site. Every card links to the brand's own listing, where the dress is described in full and sold by the people who made it.

Where this sits among the Funna princess dress costumes

The wardrobe is small on purpose. I would rather keep two dozen Funna princess dress costumes for girls properly described than list two hundred and let them rot. Each was collected, read against its own listing and designed to be understood in a minute, including how the hem runs and how the lining feels against the everyday clothes worn underneath. If a dress stops being worth its money it leaves the shelf, however beautiful it looks in the photograph, and whatever the birthday calendar says.

Dress-up play is not decoration. A child who puts on a gown steps into a kingdom she invented herself: she becomes a queen, pretends her way through an enchanted afternoon and explores a personality a size too large for her. Imagination does that work, and it is the magical part. Halloween and birthday parties are the loudest days of it, but most of the wear happens on a wet Tuesday with nobody watching.

No ads run on these pages and nobody pays to sit near the top, so when one of the styles disappears it is because the listing did. Find the size first, have fun with the rest, and let imagination do the heavy lifting.
